Sabbaths are Glorious

Sa Bai Dii

Today we took a Sabbath! It was well needed! Last night we slept in a village home. The girls all slept upstairs under a mosquito net. I woke up at 3 am to the sound of bats flying around over our heads. We had visited a bat cave the day before so I knew exactly what it was! My teammate Jessica is not a fan of any tiny creepy creature so I PRed she wouldnt wake up. The Father answered my PR. We woke up at 6 am to very very very very loud music coming from outside and I told her that we slept with bats in the room! So needless to say I didnt get much sleep last night so we felt like today would be a good day for a Sabbath! The people here wake up very early and go to sleep rather late so we are still trying to get use to not getting much sleep.

Father blessed our decision! We had some awesome fellowship time in the word together and individually! We are going through Acts as a team. We are on chapter 18. Father is teaching us so much everyday! We are all loving him more and more each day!

We just got done with a 4 day long stretch. We had a believer who was our translator for those days. We couldnt have done it without him! It was so encouraging to have him with us!

One day we were PR walking through a village and we went into the temple grounds. Our tranlator started talking to the monk that was there. He showed us around and explained everything to us. We talked for about 20 minutes and then asked us if we were hungry. He told a novice to climb a coconut tree and cut down some coconuts for us to eat. So this little monk in his orange robes climbed a 50 foot coconut tree with a massive knife in his hands to cut us down some coconuts. It was insane! We joked about how there was a monk in a tree without a key. Our translator thought that joke was hilarious! We drank the coconut milk and ate the meat out and talked some more with the monk. We wanted to show him that we appreciated his hospitalityso we asked him if there was anything we could do, so he told us that we could sweep out the temple. We agreed and started sweeping and cleaning out a Buddhist temple!! We were so filled with the spirit will we were PRing the we starting singing worship songs at the top of our lungs while we were cleaning. We cleaned for about an hour. The monk wanted us to take a picture of us with him and the novices and print it out for him, so the next day we printed the picture out and wrote him a note telling him that we did all of it in our Fathers name! It was an awesome opportunity!!

That night the girls and I cooked an American meal for our tranlator and our host! We bought some potatos, green beans, onions, and tomatos at the market and cooked french fries, green beans, and sweet chicken with tomatos and onions. The guys had to catch a chicken and kill it for us! It was hilarious!! Our translator and host were impressed. It didnt have the spiceyness they usually have in there food, but they liked it!

Our translator made sure we had "special" food while he was with us. He wouldnt tell us what we were eating until after we were finished! Throughout the past few days we ate rat, water buffalo, chicken eyes and feet and insides, wood, and lots of chilis! Its been a pretty fun experience!

I love it here! The people are so extremely welcoming and hospitable! Most places we go have never seen foreigners so we get stared at alot but after they warm up to us they want to be our best friends!

Keep PRing for Father to give us a hunger for him and to love him more. To keep distractions out of our heads since we are nearing the end of the trip. We have exactly 2 weeks to the day till we fly out! We are entering some places where we are going to need persistance and patience! Our translator just left us so we are having to depend on our language skills again and for Father to put english speakers in our path.

Everyone read Psalms 145!!!
I have been meditating this Psalm for about 2 weeks now and I never get tired of it! It really shows off how wonderful Father is!!

Also everyone needs to call Kassidy and tell her HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! She is turning 18 today! I just called so if I can call all of you can call!! haha!

I love you all sooooo much!!!

  3. Katy,
I know I talked to you twice on the phone yesterday and sent you an e-mail, but I want to give you a comment too. I woke up early this morning and as I was lying in bed PRing for you and your team and thinking about your adventure with the Monk and how your team cleaned the temple I had a thought. I know that may surprise you, LOL, but I was thinking how there are many lessons our Father's Son taught using analogies and I have an analogy for you...I'm thinking as you were sweeping out the temple you were sweeping out all the old, the old dust, the old ways, the old traditions of the temple and as you and your team were singing songs of Praise to Father you filled that place with a new spirit, a spirit that is living, and will last forever. You are truly doing a great work over there, I just didn't know it would involve work like sweeping :) Your updates are so uplifting, keep them coming. You are never far from my thoughts and PRs.
    I love you!
    Mom
